Horizon Oxford Rower Review

The Horizon Oxford Rower is a large folding rowing machine for home use. Its key features are smooth air resistance, a strong aluminum rail and wireless heart rate monitoring. It’s sale priced under $1000 and has a two-year parts warranty.

The Horizon Oxford Rower is a simple black and white rowing machine for home gyms. Measuring 100″ long (8’4″), it is one of the largest rowing machines on our review website. Its long aluminum beam helps the machine fit people of all heights, and the beam can be folded upward up in case floor space is needed.

This rower uses air resistance to support smooth full-body workouts. Its noise level is like that of a household fan, and the resistance increases with your own energy output. This resistance system is suitable for new rowers and more experienced rowers alike. A data console shows heart rate and gives session feedback, but it does not have preset workout programs.

The Oxford Rower has a pivoting console to suit different riders’ heights, and the oversized footpads also make it suitable for the whole family. An integrated shelf can keep hydration within reach.

The Horizon Oxford was originally priced at $1,499, but now you can find it direct from the manufacturer at a sale price of $999.

Positives:

Here are some selling points for the Horizon Oxford Rower.

  • Air Resistance: Air resistance systems on rowing machines are fans with heavy blades. Your rowing action moves the fan blade, producing minimal noise while sending a refreshing breeze. The more intensely you row, the more resistance is generated. The amount of resistance you can generate makes the Oxford appropriate for novices as well as experienced rowers.
  • Comfortable Handlebars: The handlebars are designed for comfortable gripping. Their high density foam covers make it easier to work through long rowing sessions.
  • Ergonomic Seat: The Oxford’s seat is ergonomically designed. It is molded for good comfort and better cushioned than seats on other rowing machines.
  • Oversized Footpads: The extra-large footpads are made to accommodate any shoe size. The pedals have straps to help you stay in position.
  • Adjustable Console: The console has an adjustable angle to help this rower fit any rider. The screen is backlit for easy viewing even at night.
  • Wireless Heart Rate Data: The Horizon Oxford has a built-in wireless receiver for heart rate data. Compatible chest straps are sold separately.
  • Water Bottle Holder: An open storage compartment beneath the console can be used to keep a water bottle handy.
  • Battery Console: The console is powered by a battery. This makes it more convenient to place the rowing machine; there’s no concern about a power cord.
  • Easy to Fold & Move: The Horizon rower has a large frame, yet it’s easy to handle. You can fold the machine with a one-step release mechanism. This lets the long beam be stored vertically. Caster wheels make it easy to roll the machine into position.
  • Compact for Storage: The machine’s folded dimensions are just 44″ x 21″ x 64″. Unfolded for use, it measures 100″ x 21″ x 40″.
  • Warranty:  The Horizon Oxford is covered by an acceptable warranty. Customers get five years of coverage on the frame and a two-year warranty on the computer and moving parts.
  • Weight Capacity: The Oxford rowing machine can hold up to 285 pounds. It weighs 103 pounds.

Negatives:

Why wouldn’t you choose this product? Here are a few potential drawbacks of the Horizon Oxford Rower.

  • Size: Measuring 100” long, this rower has a very large footprint.
  • No Programs: The console does not have exercise programs.

  • Price: The sale price of $999 isn’t high for a rowing machine in general, but this machine is very basic and not especially durable.

The Horizon Oxford Rower is a mid-quality rowing machine that’s a bit overpriced. Its best points are that it can comfortably fit a wide height range and will challenge a wide range of strength levels. We are disappointed by the lack of programming though, and the two-year parts warranty isn’t so impressive. It’s a decent rower, but it isn’t making us do any backflips.
